Parenting skills are not hereditary. But they can be easily learned.
Many years ago, a colleague of ours at a national convention made the statement that he was surprised that there wasn’t more child abuse in our country.
In part, he made the statement for "shock value," to capture the audience's attention at the start of his talk. And of course, he wasn’t advocating the abuse of children.
Conversely, he was stressing a very important point: parenting is very difficult! And there isn’t a parent alive that hasn’t looked back on some of their more challenging moments while parenting and wished they would have handled the situation differently.
The more calm we can feel, generally the better job we do.
